Alison + Ryan | Museum of Contemporary Art

Alison + Ryan went to the same high school — Joliet Catholic Academy — but they didn’t know each other. They had many mutual friends though, and some ten years after high school (when Alison was 27 and Ryan 29), their friend Jill set them up on a blind date. It didn’t take long for them to realize they were meant to be together and have been dating happily for the last 3 years.

Ryan proposed on a cold, wintery evening when Alison was returning home after a long day at work. She had just gotten off of the city bus, and when she opened the front door — all wind blown and cold — there was Ryan on one knee looking up at her, with ring in hand. They quickly packed up their things (they had a big trip scheduled in the morning) and went out to celebrate with friends. The next morning after a long evening of celebration, they overslept and almost missed their flight to Puerto Rico! You can see Alison + Ryan’s engagement session at Soldier Field here.

We also photographed Ryan’s brother’s wedding in Mexico last year, which you can see here. We love being able to photograph siblings’ weddings; both of these have been such wonderful experiences for Tom and me!

Alison + Ryan chose a chic May wedding at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. It was such a glorious day. Everyone was basking in the fact that Chicago was finally warming up, so we splurged and took a variety of outside photos in industrial parts of the city with skyline views to showcase Chicago’s rustic side. The decor of the wedding itself was perfectly chic and classic with candles and beautiful flowers from Stemline Creative.

Alison + Ryan were so relaxed on their wedding day, which is a huge treat for us as photographers. Their main concern was that everyone have a great time and enjoy the day. With delicious food and rocking music from WolfGang Puck catering and  DJ Roberto Monastero, everyone did have an excellent time.

I loved catching Alison + Ryan just smiling at each other throughout the day and stealing moments together. Ryan calms Alison, and Alison brings out the best smile in Ryan. They are best friends — truly an inspiring couple.

After the amazing day, Alison + Ryan enjoyed an unforgettable honeymoon on an African Safari. They highly recommend gotoafrica.com if you’re looking for an upcoming getaway.

Thank you Alison + Ryan! We loved being a part of your day, and we loved that your day was such a huge celebration of you two and your love for one another. We were honored and inspired to be a part!

XOXO,
