Lake Geneva Vow Renewal | G + N | GCP by Nicole

I was so excited when Gretel first asked me about shooting her vow renewal at Lake Geneva in January. I knew it would be cold, but I also knew if anyone could make the most of out it that it would be Gretel and Nick.

The week leading up to the vow renewal they kept saying huge snow storm coming along with all of the usual warnings. Well Mother Nature is not to be trusted and had already fooled us many times with claims of being hit with many feet of snow. I just kept saying even if it does snow it will be so pretty in your images. Well the night before the vow renewal warnings became more severe, but that the storm wouldn’t start until much later in the day. So as Gretel would say…the show must go on!

When we arrived at Lake Geneva there were so people out actually walking on the lake so I knew that would be the perfect spot to take some of their pictures. How many people can say that their wedding was literally on a frozen lake??!?!?! I just love that I can count on Gretel and Nick to go along with my ideas.

After a quick photo session on the lake we headed across to a gazebo in the park for their exchange of vows. This was right when some flurries started up and between those and the frozen lake as a backdrop it was beautiful. Gretel’s friend was the officiant and did an amazing job that brought about happy tears and laughter.

Gretel and Nick were originally supposed to have their vow renewal on the beaches of Oahu – quite the contrast to what they ended up having! So one of their other cherished friends played the ukulele during their vows.

After their ceremony we headed to the Ice Castles on the other side of the lake. It was my first time seeing them and they were absolutely stunning! I was just in absolute awe of them and so glad that Gretel thought to go there for pictures.

Just as we finished pictures is when Mother Nature’s threat was turning into a reality of the snow storm she was promising, but I’m so thankful that we made it through Gretel and Nick’s memorable vow renewal.
