Tuscany Falls Wedding | Kelly + Michael | GCP by Nicole

October weddings in the Midwest always come with a little unpredictability — and Kellie and Michael’s day was no exception.

Two days before their wedding, the forecast suddenly shifted to scattered thunderstorms. And not just light mist… the kind that threatens all of your outdoor first look and bridal party plans.

But here’s the thing about wedding days: flexibility is everything.

Because we were watching the weather closely, I secured indoor permits ahead of time just in case we needed to pivot. The goal is always the same — protect the experience for the couple and keep stress levels low.

The morning of October 18th, the sun was still shining and we found the perfect tucked-away location outside of their hotel for their first look. It felt like everything was going to work out exactly as planned…

Until it didn’t.

Right before Kellie stepped out, the sky opened up and it started down pouring.

Instead of scrambling, we shifted. Quickly and calmly.

We moved their first look into the hotel lobby, and their bridal party stepped in to help keep the area clear of guests so Kellie and Michael could still have that private, emotional moment together.

And honestly? It was beautiful.

Sometimes the unexpected creates something even more intimate. The soft light from the lobby, the quiet anticipation, the way Michael turned around — it all felt incredibly personal.

Afterwards, we headed to Pilcher Park, and by some miracle, the rain stopped. We were able to capture beautiful outdoor bridal party portraits before heading inside for additional portraits of just the two of them.

Taking that quiet time indoors gave Kellie and Michael a chance to breathe. To pause. To soak it all in before the ceremony began.

Their ceremony and reception both took place at Tuscany Falls, with the ceremony happening in the same room that would later transform for their reception. It was short, sweet and perfectly reflected them. Simple, heartfelt, and certain.

Following the ceremony, we utilized the attached terrace for extended family photos. Because we planned intentionally, we were able to complete family formals efficiently so Kellie and Michael could enjoy cocktail hour and spend meaningful time with their guests.

And from that point on? Smooth sailing.

The reception was filled with sweet first dances — including a special surprise dance Kellie shared with her mom — and a packed dance floor that stayed busy all evening long.

October 18th was a reminder of something I believe deeply:

A wedding day will always have variables. Weather shifts. Timelines adjust. Plans evolve.

What matters most is having a team that’s prepared, calm, and ready to pivot so that your only job is to stay present and enjoy your day.

Kellie and Michael did exactly that.

And it was an honor to walk through it with them.
